On the weekend of April 26-27, 2008, Chris Price shared a moving message about the transformation of Zacchaeus as presented in Luke 19:1-10.
Chris comments:
Grace changes Zacchaeus’ life in two identifiable ways:
- He becomes generous towards the poor because he realizes that God has been generous to him in his spiritual poverty.
- He seeks to make restitution towards those he has wronged because he has been reconciled to God and now God has given him a ministry of reconciliation, and it is the same for us.
Grace can manifest itself in our lives in those same ways. So I’m not asking you to do anything but marvel at the grace of God and let it transform you. Are we willing to embrace people and love people as they are before they change? What about gay people? How we answer those questions will reveal to us how deep our understanding of grace is.
Chris also asked some questions at the end of his message which he left the congregation to ponder. They are repeated here to encourage reflection and perhaps interaction through the comments:
- Have you never experienced true spiritual joy?
- Do you feel resentment towards those who seem to have a close relationship with Jesus?
- Are there people in your life that you have wronged and you have yet to make restitution as far as possible?
- Do you think that Jesus can’t love you as you are right now?
- Do you think you have to polish yourselves up first?
God bless you as you listen and ponder these words.
