Early Church Community - Prayer
After a testimony from Alison McKay who recently returned from a missionary trip to the Ukraine, Dave Barker spoke on the subject of prayer in the early church community from the book of Acts.
In the first four chapters of the Acts of the Apostles, Luke takes care to make clear to his readers that this brand-new fledgling church was born in prayer and grew in prayer. As a result, they became attuned to the voice of the Spirit of God and lived in the power of God:

| Acts 2:1-4 | All together in one place |
| Acts 2:5-13 | Human reasoning |

| Acts 4:23-37 | People, prayer, possessions, property and power! |
How was this new community formed? It was through the preaching of the good news about Jesus and repentance and trust in Him. Repentance is not only being sorry for our sin, but being sorry enough to turn from it and walk in the other direction. God used this to add many to His church, and continuing to meet together in prayer, God empowered them and worked in and through them by His Spirit to bring His light to the lost around them.

Acts 2 and Christian Community
Chris Price spoke on the subject of Christian Community from Acts 2:42-47.
Chris pointed out that this community:
- was devoted to the apostles’ teaching,
- were committed to community, and
- believed God could do the miraculous and experienced it.
Chris left us to think about the question: “how could you get people to live like this?”

Foundation Stones for a Faith Community
After the pancake breakfast, we heard from ministry leaders and coaches concerning their plans for the fall. After this, Dave Barker shared a message to establish a foundation for the community of Faith in Jesus our Saviour. The four stones he identified were:
- BETHEL means house of God (Gen 28, Gen 35)
- MIZPAH means a watch tower (Gen 31, esp. Gen 31:43-55)
- GILGAL means a circle, or rolling (Josh 4)
- EBENEZER means up until this point, God has led us (1 Sam 7)
