Here is Lynsey Williamson’s November newsletter. She writes:
My last update wasn’t all that long ago, but God continues to show his faithfulness on the campus. I hope that you will be encouraged by the way God’s using his community to share the hope of Jesus with others.
Personally, the month of October was a difficult month for me in regards to my family. One of my uncle’s was diagnosed with lung cancer. The prognosis is fairly serious and he has just started radiation and chemotherapy. Unfortunately there aren’t the facilities in the town where he lives to receive the treatment he needs so he’s had to move temporarily to a different location. If you could please pray for my uncle over this next month and a half that he will have the strength to endure the treatments. Also, if you would keep my grandparents and parents in prayer as they help care for him.
Thank you again for your faithful support of God’s work at UBC and UVIC.

Chris Price shared a message in the series on Early Church Community which he titled “The Idol Factory” on Nov 9, 2008. Think that idolatry is only referring to wooden crafts that people bow down to in another culture in some far distant time? Think again. This message touches all of us and calls us to a purity of relationship with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” (Matt 6:24-25, NASB)
If you don’t have time to listen to the entire message, please make sure to listen to the “Idol Challenge” clip.

This week’s message is on Leadership in the Early Church Community by Dave Barker. John Richardson also read a letter from Todd Bruneski and shared some of his thoughts.
Scriptures Referenced: John 18:36; 1 Cor 1:23-29; Eph 5
Leadership in Jesus’ church:
- It is not political
- It is not democratic (ie. popular vote of the majority)
- It is not autocratic (my way or the highway)
- It IS theocratic
- There is no place for partisanship
- There is no place for selfish ambition
- There is no place for seeking commendation for onesself
- There is no place for self-aggrandizement or financial gain
Eph 5 - Jesus is the head of the church.
