The “5-G’s”

- The Lifestyle of a Healthy Christian

GRACE - Live in the Grace of God
Receive Christ’s saving grace, and live in it.  Abandon all attempts to earn God’s favour through accomplishments of your own and find security only through Christ’s sacrificial death on your behalf.

Share God’s grace everywhere you go, shining the light of the presence of Christ.  Followers of Jesus share the grace they have receive with others through personal evangelism and involvement with church outreach activity.

One way that followers of Jesus respond to God’s grace is by being baptized, in obedience to Christ’s command, giving outward witness to the inner cleansing and spiritual renewal experienced in Him.

The individual appropriation of the saving work of Christ.

Eph.2:8-9

GROWTH - Be a Growing Christian
Followers of Jesus know that the grace of God that saved them is only the beginning of His work in them.  They gratefully respond to God’s grace by actively pursuing a life-long process of spiritual growth in Christ, seeking to become conformed to His image.

To this end, they consistently nurture their spiritual development through prayer, worship and Bible study.  They seek to be wholly obedient to the Word of God, and honestly confront areas of personal sin, engaging the Holy Spirit’s power in seeking to turn toward righteousness.

On-going evidence of a changing life in pursuit of Christ-likeness.

II Peter 3:18

GROUP - Seek Nurturing Relationships
Followers of Jesus honour God’s call to participate in community in order to grow in Christ-likeness, express and receive love, and carry out the ministry of the church.

For this reason, followers of Jesus give priority to:

  • attending the corporate gathering of the church for the purpose of worship, teaching, and participating in the ordinances of the Lord’s Table and Baptism;
  • connecting relationally to a small group of believers for the purpose of mutual encouragement, support and accountability;
  • pursuing Christ-honouring relationships at home, within the church and in the marketplace, and are committed to pursuing the biblical patter of reconciliation when conflict arises.

Connections with others in significant relationships.

Acts 2:46

GOOD STEWARDSHIP - Properly Distribute All that God Has Entrusted to You
Followers of Jesus know that they have been bought with the price of Christ’s blood, and that everything they are and have belongs to Him.

In light of this, they desire to be responsible caretakers of the material resources with which God has entrusted them.  In response to Christ’s abundant giving, they increasingly submit their resources to His lordship and display a spirit of generosity and cheerfulness in supporting the work of the church and reaching out, with compassion, to a needy world.

Honouring God financially through what we give to the church and what we keep.

Phil.4:11-19

GIFTS - Be a Minister of Jesus Christ
Followers of Jesus recognize that the church is composed of interdependent members, each uniquely gifted by the Holy Spirit for the purpose of building up the body and furthering the ministry of the church.

Therefore, they take steps to discover, develop, and deploy their God given gifts and seek a place of service (influence) within the church with the support and affirmation of the body.

Serving Christ’s body according to spiritual giftedness and passion.
